Abstract

The aim of the presented research was to determine the level of motor competences of pupils from urban and rural primary schools. The research population was 1st grade pupils in number (n=33). The research was conducted at two primary schools – in the city of Bratislava and in the rural area of Budča, Zvolen district. The standardized test battery MOBAK 1–2 was used to collect data, which assesses two main areas of motor competences - Ball control and Body movements. We assumed that pupils from rural schools would show statistically significantly higher scores in the MOBAK 1-2 tests compared to pupils from urban schools. The results showed that pupils from rural environments achieved higher scores in several tests than their urban peers. Statistically significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) were recorded in the test - Hitting the target (area of ball control) and in the test - Maintaining balance (area of body movements) in favor of rural students. In other tests, the differences did not prove to be statistically significant, but in some cases the practical significance (size effect) was confirmed.
