Posture as a manifestation of pupils' postural health

Postural health is one of the key factors of quality of life. Currently, we are seeing an upward trend of incorrect posture in the school population, causing various other health problems. The aim was to evaluate the current qualitative level of posture in 1st grade primary school pupils in the Central Slovak region. We present the results of a total of 362 pupils, where we assessed posture using the aspect method according to Matthias through 4 primary and 2 secondary indicators with subsequent classification of pupils into qualitative areas of posture typology. Of the total number of female pupils (N = 177) and male pupils (N = 185), only less than one third were assessed with the posture typology (A) (female pupils 28%, male pupils 29%). Posture typology (B) dominated in both genders (female pupils 5%, male pupils 3%). In terms of the segments monitored, we noted a significant difference between the genders in the position of the head and neck (p<0.05). While the highest percentage in the lumbar spine area accompanied by a prominent abdominal area.
