The current state of research on Italianisms in the Slovak language
Abstract
This article presents the current state of research on Italianisms in the Slovak language, focusing on the main lexicographic sources used to identify and categorize Italian loanwords. In the initial phase of the research, the author created a corpus of Italianisms extracted from Slovak lexicographical works, examining their frequency, adaptation patterns, and semantic evolution within the Slovak linguistic context. After presenting the first results from the corpus analysis, the author was authorized to integrate her data into the international database of the OIM project – Osservatorio degli Italianismi nel Mondo, a process currently underway. This project will help raise awareness of a rich lexical heritage that has spread into many languages through the influence of Italian culture, while also increasing the visibility of the Slovak language in the international field of Italianism studies.
