Pupils’ attitudes towards physical and sports education in the first-grade pupils of selected

Abstract

The aim of the presented contribution was to find out the attitudes of younger school-age pupils at the first level of study towards physical and sports education from the point of view of the location of the school and the gender of the pupils. 122 pupils from the 3rd and 4th grade of primary schools at two selected primary schools in the Námestovo district participated in the survey. We found differences in attitudes between students in terms of school location and gender. The results confirmed statistically significant differences between students in terms of school location (p<0.01). More positive attitudes were demonstrated among rural elementary school students and more negative attitudes among urban school students. We also noticed differences in attitudes from the point of view of the gender of the pupils. Boys showed a more positive attitude towards physical and sports education than girls, but the results did not confirm a statistically significant difference. In the future, we recommend carrying out a survey with this topic in other districts and parts of Slovakia, mapping the situation in the larger territory of Slovakia in primary schools of the first grade.
