Pupils’ opinions of sport and non-sport classes towards inclusion of a pupil with a physical disability in physical and sport education

Abstract

The aim of the paper was to investigate and compare the opinions of pupils in sport and non-sport classes towards inclusion of pupils with physical disability in physical and sport education (PSE). The research sample consisted of 112 pupils in grades 6 to 8 of primary school, of whom 63 pupils attended sports classes and 49 pupils were educated in mainstream, non-sports classes. We used the standardized CAIPE-R questionnaire to collect the research data. To compare the significance of differences in pupil and TA opinions towards inclusion in PE lessons between pupils in sport and non-sport classes, we applied the non-parametric Mann-Whitney Utest. Pupils of sport classes compared to pupils of non-sport classes declare significantly more positive general opinions towards inclusive physical education (U=783; p=0.000), opinions about modification of the sport game rules (U=978; p=0.001), as well as overall opinion (U=769; p=0.000) towards inclusive physical education.
