Analysis of acceleration during the Burpee – a pilot study

Modern technologies allow us to record and evaluate the course of various physical exercises. The work aimed to analyse the acceleration values during the Burpee, define the individual phases of the exercise, express their intensity, and to establish a clear beginning and end of the exercise. Through the video recording, 5 Burpees performed separately to a sound signal at an interval of 7 seconds were assessed. Acceleration values were recorded using the PHYPHOX mobile application, with the mobile phone placed on the proband's left shoulder just below the deltoid muscle. The data from the application were transferred via computer to a screen placed next to the exercising proband. We divided the Burpee into three phases. The highest acceleration values of 36.25 ms-2 were achieved in the first phase, but in terms of intensity (average of the corresponding values) the highest was achieved in the third phase. The total intensity of the English squat was at the level of 6.84 ± 1.05 ms-2. To filter the values belonging to individual Burpees, we used the method of smoothing the values using a moving average, and in this way, we managed to identify 99% of the necessary data. The results of the research will be used in the diagnosis of strength-endurance abilities in the burpee movement test (BMP).Downloads
