Abstract

This article situates the work of Guillaume Apollinaire in the cultural context of central Europe. Firstly, it briefly reviews the most important stages in the reception of Apollinaire’s work in some central European countries. It then seeks to show that the image of Apollinaire that translations and studies bring out for the intellectual community as well as the broader public in central Europe is not necessarily the same as in Western countries. It tries to explain the main reasons for this difference in interpretation.
