Theoretical Thinking about the Modern Novel in 20th-Century Spain: Ortega y Gasset and Pío Baroja from the Current Perspective
Abstract
In this paper, we focus on the assessment of critical thinking about the modern novel by José Ortega y Gasset and Pío Baroja, who were protagonists in one of the most relevant controversies regarding the future ways of the novel genre, proposing divergent and opposite ideas in the 1920s which continue to have an impact on literary criticism today. Our point of view tries to value their ideas from the current perspective.
