Legal translation is a specialized field that requires translators to address not only textual and linguistic aspects but also to convey domain-specific knowledge in the target language. This ensures the text’s function is preserved, and misunderstandings are avoided. Terminological resources, such as monolingual and multilingual glossaries, are crucial tools for translators, who often lack specialized knowledge yet must choose the most appropriate equivalents for audiences unable to access the original text’s content. This article proposes a conceptual approach to terminology, emphasizing accurate definitions to guide translators. It explores whether mediating between specialized and common language is necessary, using the concept of homicide in Italian and Czech criminal law as a case study.
