Abstrakt

In this article, I will attempt to outline some trends in the reception of the respective literatures in Slovak and Italian translation in the period between the two world wars. Referring to this ambience, it is possible to notice the phenomenon of a certain tardiness, which probably has its roots in the tendency to confirm and prolong the social convention expressed in literary and ideological terms. In the case here, we are also faced with a specific cultural phenomenon: Slovakiaʼs political autonomization from the dismembered Czechoslovakia is followed by cultural self-definition, including literary culture. We can see the impact of political censorship also on literary production and reception, as well as the orientation of literary reception in translation towards foreign literatures framed in the allied political regimes. In this work, I try to outline such tendencies on specific literary texts and authors.
