Abstract

The territorial dispersion of journeymen's paths can be observed from two perspectives: first, by tracing the areas and routes of journeymen from individual cities in Slovakia towards Bratislava; and second, by tracing the cities and areas of non-Slovak parts of Hungary and cities in surrounding countries and cities from which journeymen came to Slovakia.

While in the 17th century, journeymen coopers came to Bratislava from countries to the west (from Silesia, Saxony, Thuringia, Upper France, Bavaria and others), in the 19th century, most journeymen came to Bratislava from countries and regions to the east (from Hungary - mainly from the region of Transylvania and Banat, from the Balkans, or from the eastern part of the Carpathian arc). The share of journeymen coming to Bratislava from Moravia and Bohemia also increased significantly.
