Abstract
Janko Francisci-Rimavský, politician, journalist, writer, translator, is one of those research personalities who, due to the level and results of their scientific work, rank among the representatives of Slovak ethnology and folklore studies.1 The subject of my contribution is to evaluate his collecting work, publishing efforts, and theoretical interpretation of folk literature, and to point out some significant moments in his life that connect him with Banská Bystrica.
