Die Emtegeräte und Emtechniken in der Slowakeiund deren karpatisch-balkanischer Kontext (Das Mähen mit der Sense)
Abstract
Harvesting grain with a sickle - especially in eastern Slovakia - gradually replaced harvesting with a scythe at the beginning of the 20th century. The emerging capitalist conditions in Slovak agriculture in the second half of the 19th century brought with them the demand for a faster and more profitable harvest. Seasonal workers extended the use of the scythe to domestic conditions.
