Das Obersorbische Sprichwortgut als historisches Material

Abstract

Paremiological research in the Sorbian language area is essentially divided into two stages. The first stage includes the collection of material from the 17th century to the end of the 19th century, whereby proverbs in the Upper Serbian dialect area were thoroughly recorded, while those in the Lower Serbian dialect area and the Schleife dialect area were recorded only sporadically. The study is therefore based primarily on Upper Serbian proverbs, and an overview of the content of the sources is also given here. The second stage is focused on the scientific study of proverbs in Eastern European countries.
