Abstrakt

The experience of exile is part of the history of the Czech nation and Europe. As such, however, it is not a closed part of history that has already passed, but it can be an important experience that in its written records can reflect our present, influenced, among other things, by the migration crisis of the last two decades. The term "life-writing" refers, among other things, to the effort to record life in a way that corresponds to the experiences of people who stand outside the great history. This article attempts to name the possibility of capturing the life and work of an exile who is not among the great names of the Czech literary exile but is still waiting to be included. We will present, at least briefly, the Czech poet Jiří Volf, who is for us an example of an exiled author. If exile is an important experience in our society, how can it contribute to our understanding of today? And how can we write about such an experience, about the lives of others, from a research perspective?
