Regularity and the “Frenchness”of the Cornelian Cid in the Observations of Georges de Scudéry
Keywords:

In 1637 Georges de Scudéry (1598–1667) published his Observations on Pierre Corneille’s The Cid, played triumphantly a short time before. An in-depth reading of Scudéry’s text will enable us to highlight the main points of Scudéry’s relationship between the “Hispanity” of the Cornelian model (Las Mocedades del Cid by Guillén de Castro) and the general tendency towards a gradual regularization/nationalization of French theatrical production.
